COMMUNITY
The Okanagan Valley in B.C. and the Okanagan Lake area is known for its spectacular vineyards producing premium quality wines that regularly win national and international wine competitions. Few wine-producing regions in the world can match our combination of mountains, lakes, fresh air and intense sunlight with so many grape varieties. For this is a truly bountiful country.
Over a dozen wineries are located in Kelowna B.C. with over 60 in the whole Okanagan Valley B.C. region. All wineries offer wine tasting. As well, several wineries have facility tours to teach visitors the art of winemaking. Wine tours can last from 20 minutes to an hour, depending on the winery. Many wineries have food services available. Gourmet regional cuisine, tapas-style fare or cheese and fruit platters are served either indoors or on protected patios, all with spectacular lake and valley views. Reservations are not required. Tours are open to people of all ages; however children under the age of 19 are not permitted to taste the wine. The sun-drenched valley surrounding Kelowna is dotted with farm-gate wineries too, where each vintage is lovingly bottled by hand.
Water sport opportunities abound. Okanagan Lake, B.C. stretches 114 miles and is up to 1,000 feet deep in some parts. Boating, water-skiing, windsurfing, swimming and snorkeling can all be found here. This region is great for fishing too. And the possibilities aren't limited to Okanagan Lake. Several other fishing holes are nearby, including the 16 reservoir lakes in and around the Okanagan Lake area. Hikers and mountain bikers won't be disappointed either. Numerous trails provide something for everyone, beginner and expert alike. Enjoy the luxurious landscape and the wildlife while breathing in the fresh, clean air. Mountain trails provide a panoramic view of the valley below. The area also is perfect for horseback riding and camping. The Okanagan Valley boasts 40 golf courses, 10 within a half hour drive from downtown Kelowna. Lush greens stand out against the majestic mountain back drop. Something to suit everyone's taste is sure to be found here with everything ranging from challenging championship courses to par threes. The perfect weather tops it all off, with Kelowna, B.C. averaging only 13 inches of precipitation a year, making most any day ideal.
Culture abounds in Kelowna. Several galleries offer a wide variety of works from local, regional, national and international artists. The performing arts are found here as well. An assortment of theatre and musical performances are sure to entertain all. For this is truly a cultural centre! An amazing variety of unique shops and boutiques make Kelowna the biggest shopping destination in the B.C. Interior. Lake Country is where it's at!
